What is an LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse)?

An LPN — or Licensed Practical Nurse (called LVN in some states like California and Texas) — is a licensed healthcare professional who provides hands-on patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or physician.

🔹 Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitoring vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, respiration)

  • Administering medications (depending on state regulations)

  • Performing wound care and dressing changes

  • Observing and reporting patient conditions

  • Assisting with bathing, dressing, and hygiene

  • Communicating with patients and families

  • Maintaining accurate patient records

🎓 Education:

Typically requires about 12 months of training at a vocational or technical school and passing the NCLEX-PN licensing exam.
